The uninhibited island (0,15 km^2) is the top of a volcano (height about 3.500m) consisting of two halfs with a semicircular bay between.
Recently the first mountaintop impact crater was identified in northeastern China (Baijifeng Mtn.).
Possibly the bay at Salas-y-Gomez may be another mountaintop impact crater. Certainly field work will be necessary to decide, if this hypotheises can be confirmed or must br rejected
(Kumlehn de Mamani, 2024).
